This is our first delivery from Crooks Fall 2011 collection entitled “Rivals.” We are most impressed by their fleece this season. The quality is really great on these sweaters and my personal favorite being the speckled fleece. Their “air gun” design tends to go quick..

Here’s a little behind the scenes video of Lafayette shooting their Fall 2011 lookbook. Their fall season is amazing and it should be coming in soon.

For Fall 2011 season DEADLINE kicked things into high gear with their religious themed shirts. They are obviously known for their great collabs and this season they did one with Atiba Jefferson. Here’s some background info on him if you’re not familiar.
Atiba started off taking photos at Transworld Skateboarding magazine until he started his own magazine with his friends, the Skateboard Mag. He was one of the team photographers for the LA Lakers and has shot freelance for many notable clients including Nike. In recent times he has been working on Vans OTW as he continues to travel the world and take photos.

Sole On Ice to us is undoubtedly the best shoe consignment spot in the Bay Area. It isn’t about the selection or the unique build out, it is all about Randy the owner. With the shoe game being so different now it’s evident while talking to Randy that he loves all types of footwear and loves the community. Jordans are undoubtedly the most popular choice of footwear in San Jose but we sat down and talked to Randy about the state of the industry and how he loves Ronnie Fieg’s Ultra Marine’s.
1. Boxers or Briefs?
Boxers, always!
2. What do you want Sole On Ice to bring to Japantown?
I want to be apart of something special for all the new young blood within the community. Before ARISTOCRATS and Cukui it was just old people. I want to show a little bit of San Jose’s culture. It was always there but there has never been a place where everyone can gather until now. I want to bring a bit of youthful exuberance, as they say.
3. How do you feel about shoe culture?
I love it, it will always go on! What’s most inspiring to me is the hustle that people have to go get shoes, get what they love. I love what Ronnie Fieg is doing! It is just now that brands are getting in touch with the new customer, the new look. There is more to the footwear game than just Nike and we are seeing that with New Balance and Ronnie bringing back Asics and doing some cool boots. I’m actually looking for the Ultra Marine’s for myself, I like the mint leaf’s too. I like how with these collaborations between individuals and companies they can share ideas and make something cool together. That’s how you keep it going!
4. Do you think things in SJ change very slowly? Considering it’s the tech capital of the world.
It takes awhile for things to catch on here. So, i’m happy to be apart of a place like Japantown where we can help continue to bring the culture to a new generation of kids.
5. What’s next?
Our website is being worked on right now, I want it to be right. I want to learn from my mistakes and not do it again. Eventually, i’ll open up another store!

Cukui opened awhile back but we are now just getting around to doing this little Japantown project. We don’t have a name for it yet but were basically supporting the Japantown community by going around and highlighting all the people and businesses. The brand is owned by Orly Locquiao who is a world famous tattoo artist and you can catch him over at Humble Beginnings. Over at the store though you can catch Orly’s brother Jason who has always been helpful and friendly.
We asked Jason a few questions just for the record.
1. What do you want Cukui to bring to Japantown?
More clientele and definitely more culture!
2. What’s next for Cukui?
Our block party on August 27th and of course our Fall season.
3. What’s your favorite thing about Japantown?
It’s a tight knit community and everyone knows each other, it’s still a hidden gem though. Were behind the shadow of SF Japantown, then again we have our own thing going on.
4. What’s your favorite place to eat in Japantown?
Omogari!
