After waiting months for this to come out we are proud to announce that we are one of 20 stores worldwide that received this capsule collection by 5th Column and Black Scale. One of the fastest selling collections we’ve ever had at the shop. Most people don’t know but 5th Column and Black Scale go back awhile. Their first collaboration was when Jason Calabretta designed Giza AKA “that pyramid shirt” for them. It is now re-released in different colorways in this capsule. The 5th rendition of BS’s iconic Rebel Flag is also a new favorite of ours. Unfortunately, we are out of some sizes already… Call or text for availability!

San Francisco based Black Scale and New York based 5th Column are teaming up to release a capsule collection together entitled BLACK COLVMN. ARISTOCRATS is extremely excited to be receiving this collection in the near future.

We heavily support all the brands we carry in anyway we can… A brand that has reciprocated that support and been with us since the beginning is 5th Column. With all the new brands out today we haven’t seen anything as intelligent or as passionate as the people behind the Five Columns. This Summer 5th Column is heading out on their cross-country tour known as the “Enemy of the State Tour.”

The tour entails stops at 5th Column centric places and is going to produce a lot of photos and we love photos. You can also take this time to follow their tumblr which is filled with great stuff.

America is the greatest nation in the history of the world but freedom of religion has created a divide so large it has obstructed understanding and deformed the meaning of spirituality to it’s core. There is no real separation of church and state when ‘In god we trust’ is written on currency. The result being an aggregation of Judaean, Christian and Islamic splinter groups without understanding of the history or meaning behind god. In America, religion is becoming a way to divide us not bring us together. How many have read the entire Bible, Torah and Koran? The hostility between Jew and Muslim, Catholic and Protestant, etc. is reaching a state of unrest, much like in the Middle east or Northern Ireland only because we refuse to understand the scriptures for what they really are: FABLES which have been misconstrued and misinterpreted through the years.
Case in point, the Westboro Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church known for its extreme stance on every other form of worship, homosexuality and its protest activities, which include picketing veteran funerals and desecrating the American flag. If we allow these kinds of religious hate groups safe haven, in small towns like Topeka Kansas no less.. like a radicalized Islam we’ll find ourselves trapped in uncontrollable war at home and abroad. All empires fall and America is no different from that of Byzantium or Rome before her, with one difference: We have only experienced one civil war in 200+ years.

‘AMERIKA’ symbolizes all that is wrong with the US as a nation state, the fringe elements and hate groups will soon find their way of thinking doomed and themselves up against a new form of enlightened citizenry.

II. [THE KIDS WILL HAVE THEIR SAY] | 5th Column Spring 2011 Preview

Motivated by what I learned as a youth growing up in the NYHC scene. It’s taught me pure revolutionary values, a love for different kinds of music and cultures and a proactive way of looking at life. As a kid, the older bands showed me the way through some tough times in a city and a world that was very different than it is today. Agnostic Front, 7 Seconds, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of today, Judge, Side by Side, Sheer Terror, Maximum Penalty all had different ways of getting across the same positive message to us. These lyrics still resonate with me, the lessons are still there even if that scene is not.

The straight edge bands from Boston : DYS, Slapshot, Impact Unit, and of course SSD (Society System Decontrol) had the same message but the sound was very different than what was happening in NY and I believe it molded what we all did in 90’s when the NEW youth crew emerged at A7.

For the center piece of 5th Column VI [THE KIDS WILL HAVE THEIR SAY] I wanted to bring back the same call to arms but revamp it for a newer generation of kids who haven’t had their say yet. Instead of rising up I see a younger generation being held down and silenced now more than ever, I fear it will take more than a positive message from a 7″ record to lift these young minds from the grave. The youth will always hold the power, power of the mind and heart that will incite real change one day soon.

This May, ARISTOCRATS will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary. It has always been our mission to provide a unique experience that includes helping out our community, being inclusive rather than exclusive, and building a relationship with brands that we find relevant. One of those brands that we truly believe in is 5th Column. To this day we don’t believe there is any other brand that is as smart as them. They truly do not resemble any other brand out there and Jason is always willing to explain the shirts to you. Whether you are helping sticker bomb or supporting by wearing the shirts we hope that you take active participation in being a disciple.

5th Column VI [THE KIDS WILL HAVE THEIR SAY] Spring 2011 will be releasing on the Ides of March (the 15th) at ARISTOCRATS. Until then we will be previewing the line with explanations of all the pieces.
